Missionary Work
The St. Thomas Reformed Church also supports missionaries, and is involved in other community activities.
Over the years we have established a wonderful relationship with missionaries to the Dominican Republic, Joel and Valdinete Zamorano. Here is a recent letter from the Zamoranos:
Hello friends! May God bless you!
Blessed be our Lord Jesus Christ who every day gives us victory! We are doing well, thanks to our good God. Yes, God is good in all times.
On June 11th, 2005 we had the graduation for our last DTS school. Our group was very special this last time and we could see God working in and through the students’ lives. We had three months of teaching, and then went on outreach to the Dominican and other countries.
Here in the Dominican Republic, we traveled to two different places. One city named Salcedo is in one of the most religious regions of the country. We had many spiritual attacks on our health there, but we had victory in Christ. We saw children, youth, and adults giving their lives to Christ and finding freedom.
After that, we went to the hottest region of the country, Azua. Their we worked with a church in a very poor area plagued with drugs, prostitution and alcoholism. We are going to places that are very difficult, but we had the joy of seeing women and men without hope say "Yes" to Christ. They decided to leave lives of sin and start new lives.
Since the majority of the team did not speak Spanish, we were working with dramas, choreographed music, and testimonies. We could truly see God working through the students’ lives. Valdinete and Isabela were with the group. Isabela had a wonderful time during the trip as she participated in the choreography and some of the dramas.
On May 14th , we finished the outreach in the Dominican. During this time, I was at the YWAM base working with two other teams. One of the teams was a group of friends from Atlanta who came to our country to do medial outreach in the most poor communities. They distributed medicine to all who came. It was wonderful to see people receiving Christ during this time. We had more than 900 people ministered to during the week-long clinic.
On May 18th, we began the second phase of the outreach. This time we divided into three teams: 7 went to Haiti, 7 to North Africa, and 7 to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. I directed the team to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. In Costa Rica we worked with the native Indians, and it was a great blessing. In Nicaragua we evangelized in an area with refugees from the Hurricane Mitch, where we witnessed much poverty and need. We had the opportunity to present the hope that is in Christ.
It was with great emotion that we saw all of the youth return and give different testimonies from each of the three groups. God performed miracles through their lives.
We had graduation on June 11th, and on the 12th I left for Atlanta to join with a group from three churches. We did street evangelism and worked with the Hispanics. After Atlanta, I traveled to Canada to visit some friends. I was preaching to a group of Mexicans that work in agriculture there. A also visited a couple of friends and shared at their church. I returned to the Dominican the 27th of June.
During this time, Valdinete was working on the details of the next school, which will start on the 24th of July. So far we have 23 students enrolled.
We thank God for all of the opportunities that He has given us to do His work.
Prayer requests:
Our families
Our health
Physical and spiritual strength
Finances
We would like to visit Brazil at the end of the year and we are praying for the provision of God for this trip.
We appreciate your prayers, love and support. It is so encouraging and important that we hear from you by email or telephone with words of encouragement and news. Without this encouragement we would not be able to continue in our work. May God reward you!
Hugs from us,
Zamorano Family
